Chapter 4
- How can there be invocation or dismissal? How can there be flowers and leaves? How can there be meditations and mantras? How can there be equal and unequal worship of Shiva?
- I am not merely free from bondage and non-bondage. I am not merely free from purity and impurity. I am not merely free from union and separation. I am indeed liberated, like space.
- All this arises as real; all this arises as unreal. Such a conceptual distinction has never arisen for me. I am of the nature of liberation, free from ailment.
- There is no with-attribute or without-attribute, no within or without. The internally distinct does not appear to me. I am of the nature of liberation, free from ailment.
- Ignorance and knowledge have never arisen for me. The form of knowledge has never arisen for me. How can I speak of being without knowledge and with knowledge? I am of the nature of liberation, free from ailment.
- I am not endowed with virtue or sin. I am not endowed with bondage or liberation. The endowed and the unendowed do not appear to me. I am of the nature of liberation...
- There is never a higher or lower for me. There is no middle state, no enemy or friend. How can I speak of good and bad? I am of the nature of liberation...
- I am not the worshipper, nor the form of the worshipped. There is no instruction for me, nor any action. How can I speak of the nature of consciousness? I am of the nature of liberation...
- There is nothing here that pervades or is pervaded, no abode or abode-less state. How can I speak of the void and the non-void? I am of the nature of liberation...
- There is no grasper and nothing to be grasped. There is no cause for me, nor any effect. How can I speak of the unthinkable and the thinkable? I am of the nature of liberation...
- There is no divider and nothing to be divided. There is no knower for me, nor anything to be known. O dear one, how can I speak of coming and going? I am of the nature of liberation...
- I have no body, nor am I bodiless. I have no intellect, mind, or senses. How can I speak of passion and dispassion? I am of the nature of liberation...
- There is no mere mention of difference on high, nor any mere mention of concealment. O friend, how can I speak of sameness and equality? I am of the nature of liberation...
- I am one who has conquered the senses, or one who has not conquered the senses. I have no restraint or rule. O friend, how can I speak of victory and defeat? I am of the nature of liberation...
- I have no form or formlessness. I have no beginning, middle, or end. O friend, how can I speak of strength and weakness? I am of the nature of liberation...
- Death and immortality, poison and non-poison, never arise for me, dear one. How can I speak of pure and impure? I am of the nature of liberation...
- Dream and waking are not for me, nor is the state of yoga. Night and day are never for me. How can I speak of the state beyond the fourth? I am of the nature of liberation...
- Know me to be free from all and non-all. Maya and non-maya are never for me. How can I speak of actions like the evening rituals? I am of the nature of liberation...
- Know me to be endowed with all samadhi. Know me to be free from purpose and non-purpose. How can I speak of union and separation? I am of the nature of liberation...
- I am not a fool, nor am I a scholar. Silence and non-silence are never for me. How can I speak of logic and speculation? I am of the nature of liberation...
- Father and mother, family and caste, birth and death are never for me. How can I speak of affection and delusion? I am of the nature of liberation...
- I have not set, nor have I ever risen. Light and non-light are never for me. How can I speak of actions like the evening rituals? I am of the nature of liberation...
- Know me, without a doubt, to be untroubled. Know me, without a doubt, to be continuous. Know me, without a doubt, to be stainless. I am of the nature of liberation...
- The wise renounce all meditations. They renounce all good and bad actions. O dear one, they drink the nectar of renunciation. I am of the nature of liberation...
- Where one finds and finds not, there are no rules of meter. Where one is immersed in uniform bliss, purified by contemplation, the supreme Avadhuta speaks the truth.
